Katy Cox

Originally from Austin, Texas, Katy Rose Cox is an up-and-coming bluegrass fiddler ready to take over New York City. She is accomplished in classical, pop, and bluegrass styles, and has performed in venues all over the US, from punk clubs like CBGB'S to classical performance spaces like Carnegie Hall. Her musical influences include Bill Monroe, Del McCoury, Dolly Parton, Otis Redding, Tom Waits, and T-Rex. Katy is presently the fiddler for no less than three bands: The Nieces and Nephews (a traditional bluegrass band), Brooklyn Browngrass (a wild local favorite), and Uncle Fucker (New York's premier hardcore bluegrass punk band). Dedicated to learning still more about the bluegrass style, she regularly attends the BABS sessions, paying particular attention to her favorite fiddlers, like Kenny Baker, Chubby Wise, Vassar Clements, Bobby Hicks, and Benny Martin. Katy is also a documentary filmmaker, and is currently directing a project called The Making of the Museum of Sex in New York City.
